April 2008
  • Friday, April 4 - We had the pleasure of fishing with the backbone of the Prairie Home Alliance, Toni and Kim. Scott and Mike, also from the Prairie Home Alliance were along on the trip as well, but the ladies outfished them pretty easily. Big fish of the day were a 10 lb carp and also a 5 lb rainbow. Fishing started off slow, but steadily picked up as the day went on. Turned out to be a pretty good day- 9 carp average of 4 lbs each and 29 trout average of 1.85 lbs each.

  • Monday, April 7 - We fished with Kevin Enzer and his future in-laws. Bass fishing is still very inconsistent and we turned up a big goose egg while fishing for largemouth. We caught a few trout and carp in the morning, but as the sun came up, the fish started biting like crazy! Kevin had the pole with rotten line on it this time. Big fish were breaking his line pretty regularly. Tom Jr.  landed the biggest fish of the day, a nice carp. We caught well of 20 rainbows, 11 pretty good keepers. The carp were running a little small today, averaging about 2.5 lbs each.

  • Tuesday, April 15 - Weather has been extremely cold and rainy this month. Water temps are still 8-10 degrees colder than usual. Finally got out to the smallmouth lake for the first time since ice-off and was able to fish with my daughter Mae for a few minutes. The smallmouths were FAT! We caught a 3.15 lber on our first cast and decided to feed the rest of our minnows to the school of fish hanging out by the dock. Mae enjoys feeding fish more than actually fishing. I almost didn't even go fishing today, because I didn't have my camera with me and we always catch the trophies on the rare occasion I don't have my camera. (if you book a trip and I forget my camera, you are in for the best fishing day known to man) We did have an old camera phone with us, but the pics did not turn out.

Justin was out installing an aeration system today and spotted a huge grass carp on her death bed out in the middle of the lake. We never pass up an opportunity to photo a giant fish!

  • Wednesday, April 16 - We had some meetings at the trout ponds today so I decided to bring Mae along to do some fishing between meetings. She is 2.5 yrs old and has already caught more trophy fish this year than most avid fishermen! Today she reeled in a 2 lb largemouth, numerous bluegill, and a 3.75 lb rainbow trout. Muskie, Walleye, and a catfish are the only 3 fish she hasn't caught yet this year. The muskie will be a challenge, but she has a good chance at completing the grand slam in the next few weeks.

  • Monday, April 21 - I fished with Kevin Patton and his fishing partner (don't know how to spell her name, so I won't even attempt) They caught some AWESOME fish! 3 lb smallmouth, 4 lb largemouth, 1.5 lb Hybrid Stripers and a nice catfish to name just a few. Pretty good mixed bag of fish.

  • Tuesday, April 22 - Mae got her catfish! She was not happy when it splashed her pretty good at the side of the dock. She said she would rather catch the little ones!
